In a world that constantly pushes productivity, it can feel wrong to slow down. Many students believe rest is something you earn after finishing everything on your to-do list. But the truth is, rest is not a reward. It’s a requirement for good mental health.
When we ignore our need for sleep, breaks, and recovery time, stress builds up. Over time, this can increase risk factors like burnout, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and emotional exhaustion. Pushing through without rest doesn’t make you stronger. It drains the energy you need to stay balanced.
Through our conversations with Colleen from Project Oz, we’ve learned that intentional rest is a protective factor. Healthy sleep routines, screen breaks, movement, and mindful pauses all help regulate stress and improve overall wellness.
Give yourself permission to rest before you reach a breaking point. Take the break. Go to bed earlier. Step outside for fresh air. Caring for your mental health isn’t lazy. It’s responsible. At Waves of Wellness, we believe that when you protect your energy, you protect your health.
