Have you ever told yourself to “just get over it” when you felt overwhelmed? Many students minimize their emotions, convincing themselves their stress isn’t serious enough to matter. But mental health is not a competition. Your feelings are valid.

One of the biggest barriers to wellness is stigma. Talking about mental health is often seen as weakness, when in reality it is strength, but open dialogue is a powerful protective factor. When we normalize discussions about stress, anxiety, and burnout, we reduce shame and build connection.

Ignoring mental health can increase risk factors like chronic stress and negative self-talk. But supportive conversations, positive affirmations, and community can strengthen resilience.

Start small. Check in with yourself. Reach out to a friend. Speak kindly to your own mind. At Waves of Wellness, we believe that breaking the stigma helps build a healthier, stronger community.
